Annual reports (1913-1939), minutes (1907-1946), subject files (1908-1955), general office files (1907-1914), correspondence and related papers (1907-1914), sundry financial records (1907-1945), and station plans, all documenting a railway line operating in central Idaho and southwestern Montana. The general office files and correspondence included herein actually consists of 5 separate collections: that of W.A. McCutcheon, president; of W.N. Bichler, auditor and superintendent; of John H. Padgham, attorney; of L.B. McGivney, mangager and superintendent; and of miscellaneous correspondence and files. Within the Subject Files series, there is documentation on relations with government agencies, especially during the World War I period of federal control of the railroads. Within the Station Plans series, there are blueprints of standard plans and of elevations, floor plans, and grounds for stations along the G&P line, especially those at Armstead and Grant, Montana, and at Salmon, Leadore, and Gilmore, Idaho.

Incorporated in 1907 under the state laws of Idaho, the company operated a railway line that linked the mining towns of Gilmore and Salmon, Idaho, with the Oregon Short Line at Armstead, Montana, in order to carry ore to the Butte and Anaconda smelters. It was controlled by the NP through stock ownership, and itself held stock in the Lemhi Telephone Company and the Idaho Development Company.
